Whether you're single or in a relationship, Valentine's Day is just a fun commercial holiday to celebrate...because let's be real, honouring love (or eating chocolate and watching soapy television specials with your friends if you're single) really isn't so bad.

As the special day approaches this week, what better way to get excited for it than through integrating the love and cutesy-ness into your daily routine? If you're still not quite in the Valentine's Day feels, here are 14 things that are sure to get you in the spirit!

You're Special - NF

This is just a really sweet portrayal of a friendship and love all in one...it's also a great track to run to, if nothing else.

Dreams - Bazzi

This is one of those songs that you can't stop smiling to when listening. Plus, it's got a really great beat.

i'm so tired - Lauv and Troye Sivan

This song is perfect for those who are anti-Valentine's Day; however, it still totally gets you thinking about the cutesy-ness of young love. <3

Love Story - Taylor Swift

This throwback song is bound to be a reminder of past Valentine's Days which were spent handing out grocery-store bought Valentine's cards and red heart lollipops.

Eleanor and Park - Rainbow Rowell

A classic among Young Adult romance...Eleanor and Park is the story of two teen misfits in the 80s who initially hit if off by sitting together on the bus to school.

The tale follows their own growth and that of their friendship and relationship amidst their struggles with their home lives and identities at school.

This book is definitely one to give you all the feels!

Simon vs the Homo Sapien's Agenda - Becky Albertalli

This book follows a teen named Simon whose secret emails to an anyonymous boy named Blue are intercepted by the wrong person. That person then blackmails him with threats of revealing Simon's sexuality.

Simon must grapple with his increasingly annoying blackmailer, his secret, friendships and family as he navigates the pressures of high school and love.

The Sun is Also a Star - Nicola Yoon

This book follows a teenage girl named Natasha who, on a busy NYC street, runs in to a cute boy named Daniel merely 12 hours before she is to be deported back to Jamaica.

Meanwhile, Daniel also struggles with his dreams of being a poet and his parents' expectations for him to follow in their scholarly footsteps.

What results is a cute, yet timely love story about bravery, finding yourself, and standing by those you love amidst adversity.

This book has actually been made into a film set to be released on May 17, 2019 starring Riverdale's Charles Melton and Grown-ish's Yara Shahidi. Watch the trailer here.

A Thousand Nights - E.K. Johnston

A retelling of the classic Arabian tale, One Thousand and One Nights; A Thousand Nights tells the story of a king who marries young women only to have them killed within a matter of days or weeks, terrorizing young women and families across the kingdom. This cycle is tested when our un-named female protagonist voluntarily sacrifices herself to marry the king in order to protect her sister.

A Thousand Nights has strong messages on the importance of family relationships, friendship and love in amidst a difficult and misguided world.

Northanger Abbey - Jane Austen

For the committed book buffs out there, Northanger Abbey is a classical novel following 18-year-old, Catherine Morland who is sent to live with a family friend in Bath.

There, Catherine visits Northanger Abbey, a very old mansion with her crush...ultimately setting off her overactive imagination.

This novel is one that is sure to make you laugh!

A Walk to Remember

Honestly, you could literally watch any Nicholas Sparks movie and instantly be in the fluffy Valentine's Day feels.

A Walk to Remember, however, specifically follows teen protagonists, Jamie and Landon, who, despite knowing of one another since their youth, only grow in their friendship after being cast as the leads in the town play. They could not be more opposite: Jamie a pious bookworm and Landon, an outgoing athlete.

However, as their relationship blooms, the unthinkable happens and the course of their lives is changed forever.

Kiss and Cry

Based on a true story, Kiss and Cry follows the life of Carley Allison, a young Canadian competitive figure skater who is diagnosed with a rare 1 in 3.5 billion form of sarcoma (cancer).

Despite her diagnosis, Carley Allison continues to skate for as long as she can and even takes to the internet, posting online covers of inspiring songs throughout the length of her treatment.

In its essence, Kiss and Cry is a heartwarming film about the power of friendship, family and young love amidst hard times.

Chocolate hearts and Hershey's kisses are almost always the first thought when it comes to Valentine's Day treats; however, cupcakes are a just-as-delicious and slightly more unique confection for the holiday.

Pro-tip: Superstore has the cutest limited edition Valentine's Day cupcakes!

Last but not least, the best way to get hyped for Valentine's Day...sending carnations! Receiving flowers is such a special feeling and carnations are easily accessible to all. Student Council will be selling carnations on all three lunches on Wednesday the 13th (just before Valentine's Day) for $2 each or $5 for three. Carnations will be delivered with an adorable meme-tag to your friends or special someone fourth period on Thursday. What a sweet surprise!

BONUS: The best way to show someone you care is to make memories together. Give them your time: do an escape room, go ice skating together, bake together! Create moments to share with them. :)

Happy Valentine's Day 2019 BR!
