INT. SANTA’S PERSONAL CABIN - NIGHT

Murtaza Risvi, Grade 11

NARRATOR

On a cold Christmas eve, Santa rests in his master bedroom as the night falls, the bright workshop lights visible through his halls. Ms. Clause had left to supply the elves with hot chocolate and words of kindness so they would feel better about themselves.

SANTA

Oh darn it! I’m sick of it! I’m sick of how I’m treated. I spend all year making toys and then spend all of Christmas eve delivering them to delinquents and I don’t get a single thank you card? Not a single sign of appreciation or respect from anyone, not even Ms. Clause! Oh I am sick of it alright. I won’t have it!

Elf 1 bursts into room

ELF 1

Santa! Prancer is throwing a temper tantrum and he’s destroying the stables! We need your help!

NARRATOR

Santa’s forehead popped with veins and anger took over his entire brain. His face turned a bright shade of red, and smoke started flowing out the sides of his head.

SANTA

THAT DOES IT! OUT! OUT OUT OUT! ENOUGH HO HO HO’s. I AM SICK OF THIS! Elf, prepare my sleigh. I need to get fresh air.

ELF 1

But sir, Prancer is-

SANTA

ENOUGH! PREPARE MY SLEIGH.

Elf scurries out of the room. Santa slumps down on his chair.

Narrator

Santa had realized that Christmas was no longer about him. It was now about selfish kids wanting action figures and breaking their limbs. As he realized what the state of Christmas had come to, he realized what he finally must do.

SANTA

I must destroy Christmas. Not delivering toys will not be enough. I must take the entire joy away from them.

EXT. WHOVILLE - NIGHT

NARRATOR

And so that is what Santa did. He got in his sleigh and ruined Christmas for every kid. He went from house to house stealing decorations and trees. Not a single person found out due to his expertise. That is, until he reached Whoville and met a green fellow named the Grinch. He was stuffing a tree into his sack when he felt a tight pinch.

SANTA

OW! What was that for?

GRINCH

Well look who it is. Jolly old Saint Nick? I thought you were supposed to be giving presents, not stealing them.

SANTA

That’s rich coming from you, pal.

GRINCH

I’ve changed my ways. Swollen heart or

something., That's that’s what the book said.

SANTA

Good to hear.

GRINCH

So please do tell, why are you looting my Christmas tree?

SANTA

*Huffs* Because these people don’t deserve my effort. I do all this for these people and they just forget me? They become too focused on the presents to remember what Christmas is truly about. It sickens me.

GRINCH

I see. Well, a few years ago, I too had the same thought process. Come with me.

NARRATOR

The Grinch took Santa on a walk through the town, and showed him the people as happy as could be, not showing a single frown. Christmas movies were watched together and Christmas cookies were made, people hugged each other and the carolers swayed. Santa could not help but notice, there was not a single mention of gifts, everyone was happy and not a single Who was miffed. As Santa walked through Whoville and saw the holiday cheer, he saw what the Grinch was trying to show him, completely clear. Tears fell from Santa’s face as his eyes widened. He felt sympathy for the Whos as his soul began to brighten. He realized that the Grinch was truly wise, and that day, Santa’s heart tripled in size.

SANTA

Oh, what have I done! I’ve ruined

Christmas!

GRINCH

Not yet, my friend. We can still save Christmas.

NARRATOR

The Grinch helped Santa put all the decorations back in their place, with a bright new smile on his warm face. Santa raced back to the North Pole to get all the gifts, he was going to deliver presents to every child on his list. Santa saved Christmas and that is the end, but he never would have done it without his green friend.
