Student Senate's Stock Market Challenge

Danica Caratao, Grade 10

What’s Student Senate?

The Student Senate is run by the School Board’s Student Trustees, and is made up of a handful of students from every secondary school in the board, chosen to accurately represent the students on a board-wide level. Sixteen senators make up the Student Achievement and Leadership Committee, which has hosted this year’s financial literacy event.

General Information

The Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) Student Senate’s Stock Market challenge game has now begun for any registered students from grades 7-12. The event enables participants to listen to presentations from guest speakers (to be determined), and gain financial literacy and personal finance skills over the course of 3 months: from February 14th - May 13th. Practice buying and selling stocks, and gain hands-on experience in investing and business through the game. Use Investopedia to make mock investments, with an end goal to accumulate the most money. After receiving your login information, the game is available to play until May 13th. The committee has $500.00 in total to spend on prizes for the top three earners at the end of the competition.

If you have any questions, or are looking for some financial literacy tips, the organizers are Rosalba Sgambelluri (rosalba.sgambelluri.393@students.hcdsb.org) and Choeying Zangmo (choeying.zangmo.122@students.hcdsb.org).
