MARCH 5TH: RAYA AND THE LOST DRAGON

We’re starting off with a highly anticipated fantasy movie for all Disney fans! Raya and the Last Dragon features an all-star cast, including Kelly Marie Twan, an actress who will make Disney history by becoming the first Southeast Asian lead in an animated Disney film. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Twan says she “felt so seen” (Yang) when discussing the cultural significance of her role as a Southeast Asian Disney princess. The movie is centred around a young warrior named Raya living in a mythical world called Kumandra. Once threatening monsters known as the Druun resurface in her world, Raya embarks on a quest to find the last known dragon to put a halt to the impending doom. Raya and the Last Dragon is certainly going to be a special event, as it honours Southeast Asian culture and promotes inclusivity to young children– they will finally see strong Southeast Asian representation in one of Disney’s animated films.
