What is Relay for Life?
By Nada Elhossiny
Nearly one in two Canadians are expected to be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime. We are all affected, either directly or indirectly. Relay for Life, a powerful fundraiser organized by the Canadian Cancer Society, runs their event yearly in hopes of coming together and showing that no one has to face cancer alone. As a group, we walk to raise funds for advancements in cancer research, services such as transportation to treatment and peer support programs, and much more!
This year, the Bishop Reding Relay for Life committee will be hosting the event on the school football field on May 31st from 12pm-10pm. In teams of 6-10, you will be joining thousands of participants across the country to raise money and awareness for a great cause! As it is primarily a fundraiser, a small fee of $20 alongside registration on relayforlife.ca/br is required in order to participate. The fee will cover your t-shirt, luminary, and wristband. There will be food, games, competitions and much more! Prizes will also be awarded to the 3 students who raise the most money. Some of the prizes to be won this year are Airpods, a Fitbit Charge 3 and a Bose Soundlink Micro Wireless Speaker. To sign up, pick up a permission form, indicate whether you have selected a team or would like to be placed in one, pay online, and you’re ready! Online registration closes Monday, May 20th, at 11:59pm so make sure you don’t miss out! We hope to see you there.
